Since I haven't had much luck with the whole finding a 'real job' deal, I've been applying at all the kennels I can find in the yellow pages, figuring that at some point someone will quit and then I'll be in line to step in. I'm a little overqualified to scoop poop, but the rest of the work is ok, and I'm going batty without a schedule. Just driving around the past couple days has been nice, the weather is good and I've been stopping at my garden after applying. The other day going through Tumwater, I saw the weirdest thing. Laying on somebody's lawn, behind a big chainlink fence, was a 2 foot long tortoise! He (she?) was munching on the grass in the rain, which didn't seem to bother it, though he pulled his head in when he saw me watching him. So I walked off a ways so as not to disturb him, and he booked it for his back yard. So much for not disturbing him. Note: There are no big land tortoises native to Western Washington, no big reptiles at all. Western pond turtles and garder snakes are about as big as they get.

Ok, so I haven't been on here for forever, so I'm just posting now to be posting. I've gotten out my winter clothes and I'm wearing a sweater for the first time this fall. Haven't found the type of job I want yet, but I've applied for caregiver work for the time being, just so I'll not be broke and bored just working online trying to find openings. I seem to find mainly internships or mid-level or above advertised, I suppose what I'm qualified for is more easily filled positions that don't get advertised as much. Oh, well, back to work.

I just had a nest of these removed from my back porch:

So I can't go on my porch for a couple hours because there are a couple random pissed off workers flying around back there looking for their nest which is no longer there.

Obviously I've been spying on other peoples' journals. For once, one of these quiz things ends up being disturbingly accurate...

The Maid of Honor

Deliberate Gentle Love Master (DGLM)

The Maid of Honor

Appreciated for your kindness and envied for all your experience, you are The Maid of Honor.

Charismatic, affectionate, and terrific in relationships, you are what many guys would call a "perfect catch"--and you probably have many admirers, each wishing to capture your long-term love. You're careful, extra careful, because the last thing you want is to hurt anyone. Especially some poor boy whose only crime was liking you.

We've deduced you're fully capable of a dirty fling, but you do feel that post-coital attachment after hooking up. So, conscientious person that you are, you do your best to reserve physical affection for those you respect...so you can respect yourself.

Your biggest negative is the byproduct of your careful nature: indecision. You're just as slow rejecting someone as you are accepting them.

Your exact female opposite:

Half-Cocked

Half-Cocked

Random Brutal Sex Dreamer

Always avoid: The False Messiah (DBLM), The 5-Night Stand (DBSM), The Vapor Trail (RBLM), The Bachelor (DGSM)

Consider: The Gentleman (DGLM), someone just like you.

I went out to Nisqually this morning for a weed removal project, we spent maybe an hour-and-a-half pulling hemlock and ivy, and then I went birding. Among other things, I saw a great horned owl nest! It was in a big, old cottonwood snag a ways off the trail near the river, right in the sun. There were at least 2 big chicks in it, they looked like muppets with those flat, round faces and fuzz. I'll go back this weekend and see if I can get a better look. I found a photo that shows pretty much what they looked like, they seemed to be watching the people watching them. I can just imagine the parents hiding in a nearby tree giving us dirty looks.

I posted on the tesc community to see if anyone had an used flash ipod that they wanted to sell, one guy got back to me about one he had, supposed to hold maybe 8 albums, which works perfectly for what I want it for. He wanted a specific type of cheap champagne for it. Unsurprisingly, when I met him to make the trade, the guy really looked like he needed to get outside more. Unfortunately, I want to find and put music on it without actually learning how to do this. Sigh. I am a dork sometimes...

We keep on finding out so many cool things about the world. Mycoremediation of different sorts has so much potential to help us fix past mistakes, this would be great research to be in on.

And not only are there cool things in the world, there are cool people, too:
